Eligibility

Special Olympics Ohio -Butler County offers year-round sports training and athletic competition in Olympic-type sports to individuals age 8 and up with intellectual disabilities. Athletes may compete at a variety of levels that accommodate a diverse range of abilities. Athletes must be residents of Butler County, OH.

Sports Seasons and Information

Fall Sports

Golf- Registration is open May 1 to May 15. Practices begin in June, with a regional competition in August.

Instructional Golf-Registration is open July 1-15. This is for athletes not yet ready to play a full game. Practice is held as a 6 week clinic in late summer. Focus is on driving and putting.

Flag Football- Registration is open July 1-15. Practices begin late July, early August. Regional Competition is early October.

Cornhole- Registration is open July 1-15. Practice will begin late July, early August. Regional Competition is early October.

Pickleball-plans are in the works for including this as a new sport for 2027.

*(NOTE: Lakota programs are only for students ages 8-22 who are enrolled in Lakota schools. Athletes MUST all register online through Butler County Special Olympics.)

Winter Sports

Basketball *-Registration is open September 1-20. Practices begin in mid October- early November. Our seaon ends in February.

Swimming- Registration is open September 1-20. Practices begin in October, with a regional competition in January. We offer three levels....

Advanced swim is for swimmers who can  swim several 25m laps without stopping. These swimmers are looking to improve technique, stamina and speed.

Instructional swim is for swimmers who can independently swim the length of the pool but need to develop stroke technique.

Developmental swim is for beginning swimmers with little to no experience swimming. At this time, there is not a Developmental Swim Competition.

Spring/Summer Sports

Track and Field *- Registration is open February 1-20. Practices typically begin in March, with a regional competition in May. Practices are offered at Fairfield High School Track or Lakota Freshman.

Bocce- Registration is open February 1-20. Practices typically begin early March, with a regional competition in April.

Bowling *- Registration is open February 1-20.  Practices begin in March. We offer bowling at three locations: Pohlman Lanes (Hamilton),  Eastern Lanes (Middletown), RollHouse(Fairfield), Lakota Students bowl at RollHouse.
